Why the Blind Judo Foundation is a great organization and worthy of your support?
- Judo wrestling is a beautiful sport that teaches one to respect others and trains both the mind and the body.
- For blind athletes Judo is particularly beneficial in helping them to gain confidence and learn to fall safely.
- Judo is a unique sport where sighted and blind athletes can compete against each other and the blind
competitors have an almost equal chance of winning. One example is Anthony Clarke who was for years an
Australian national champion and was competing against sighted athletes.
- I personally know one of the founders, coach Willy Cahill. He is a gentle and wonderful person, who was for
several seasons the coach of the US Olympic Judo team and now trains the blind judo Paralympic team.
For three years our children have been learning judo in his Academy for sighted judokas before we moved
and joined a club closer to our new home.
- The US Blind Judo Team is really successful but they need support. Please take a little time and read about
them here: Blind Judo Foundation.
- The Paralympic Games are just starting on the 7th of September in Beijing, this is a great time to support
the athletes. Have you heard about it? Chances are that most people have not - blind judo gets so much
less exposure than sighted judo and not because the judokas are not good...
